The build team started by demolishing the existing rear laundry and back of the house to add the new brick footings, piers and timber structure that would house the huge 3.2m high vaulted ceiling over the main living room. The entire western side of the 11m long addition was the walk-in robe, ensuite bathroom and master bedroom. As you can see from the photos, the master ensuite was absolutely magazine worthy. The client (Amanda) has an incredible eye. With her choices and the teams’ solid execution, the results are something that will be enjoyed for many years to come. Sometimes overlooked but in many ways the most important part of the house, is the roof. Of course the new addition to this house nearly doubled the roof coverage and obviously required a new roof. The owners wanted to renew the existing tiled roof section as well so chose the “Colorbond Custom Orb” in Woodland Grey to do it. Craig from Australian Metal Roofing is the roofing guru. This one was no exception to his mastery. Velux skylights and a complex roof line were a challenge for the boys but the finished result was good enough that we even chose to feature it as one of our Instagram posts….it looked that good! This large block was situated directly above the stunningly beautiful Newport reef, or “Cross-waves” as it’s locally known. The existing house was a 1970’s beach house. The brief from the clients and architect was to bring it forward into the 21st century whilst keeping it’s simplistic surf-side charm. Once again, out came the excavators to carve from the rock a new space for an extra ground floor bedroom and en-suite. We then extended the front of the house three meters to create a massive new open plan upstairs living/dining room with absolutely incredible views North over the ocean. Virtually no wall was left untouched throughout the house. A stunning new kitchen, new laundry, two new en-suite bathrooms and fireplace/TV entertainment wall that is the centrepiece of the living room. It’s now the perfect space for the family to curl up on the couch in front of the fire and watch a movie or just kick back with a wine and gaze out the massive windows to watch the whales swim by. As you can see from the photos, the end result is a testament to the skill and care that the team took to create this dream interior. The inside was only just the beginning for this project. For the outside, landscape architect Peta Gilliland, created a beautiful design by tiering the site to get maximum use of the sloping block. With some careful set out, special attention to drainage and our expert excavation team we laid over 220 half tonne sandstone blocks! The result was to create some beautiful new garden beds, a top level for the vegie patch and custom made vintage clothesline up the backyard. For the front yard, a large new lawn area for the dog and the grandkids in the years to come. The Architect, Wade Cogle designed a sophisticated modern home. This design encompassed a blend of different high end materials ranging from sand stone cladding to Accoya wood all the way from Holland used extensively throughout the home. Our team coordinated to carry out extensive excavations to create the space for the basement/showroom level and in ground pool. Right from the beginning special attention had to be taken to overcome the challenge of limited landfall and large volumes of stormwater running down the property. The list of impressive features of this house is vast. The level of planning and execution by the team throughout the build was imperative to fulfil the standard required. From a one off imported kitchen Island bench from Germany to hand crafted bathroom tiles from a ceramic artist in Melbourne, this house was a build we’re incredibly proud of. The finished product speaks for itself.
